Relaxation Techniques Using Nitrous Oxide Sedation
Nitrous oxide sedation, also known as “laughing gas,” is a form of conscious sedation that is commonly used in dentistry to help patients relax during procedures. It is a safe and effective way to reduce anxiety, discomfort, and pain during dental procedures.
General Practice
Relaxation techniques using nitrous oxide sedation
The process of using nitrous oxide sedation typically involves the following steps:

Consultation
Before the procedure, the dentist will explain the use of nitrous oxide sedation and answer any questions you may have.

Preparation
The dentist will place a small mask over your nose, which will deliver a mixture of nitrous oxide and oxygen. You will be able to breathe normally through your nose.

Administration
The dentist will adjust the flow of nitrous oxide to the appropriate level, depending on the procedure and your level of anxiety. The gas will take effect within a few minutes, and you will begin to feel relaxed and comfortable.

Procedure
The dentist will perform the procedure while you are under the effects of the nitrous oxide. You will be able to communicate with the dentist and respond to their instructions.

Recovery
After the procedure, the dentist will turn off the nitrous oxide, and you will be given pure oxygen to breathe for a few minutes to help flush the gas from your system. The effects of the nitrous oxide will wear off quickly, and you will be able to go about your day as normal.
It’s important to note that nitrous oxide sedation does not put you to sleep, and you will be able to hear and respond to instructions during the procedure. It also does not affect the memory, so you will be able to recall the procedure after it’s completed.
